Phase 1 & 2 of this project are complete.
The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine has completed Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the feasibility study for a new multi-use pathway in Thornhill. The multi-use pathway is an opportunity to provide a safer and more comfortable active transportation connection between Thornhill and the Dudley Little Bridge and Old Skeena Bridge. The Thornhill Multi-Use Path Feasibility study was identified as a Board priority in 2021 and staff obtained grant funding in 2022 through the FCM Green Municipal Fund to undertake the study.
Phase 1 of the feasibility study considered the challenges and opportunities within the study area to support the selection of a preferred pathway alignment. Based on a technical analysis, the preferred multi-use pathway alignment is shown in the image below.
Phase 2 of the study identified the preferred option for the multi-use pathway and held an open house to engage with the public on that option in May 2023. A conceptual drawing was created along with a cost estimate for the project. Phase 2 was accepted and approved by the RDKS Board on August 18, 2023.
The feasibility study process was led by the Development Services department with support from consulting firm Urban Systems. See the Project Timeline, Key Dates and Documents sections of this page for more information or email the Development Services department at planning@rdks.bc.ca if you have any questions.
