The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine is conducting a business survey to track the pulse of businesses within communities represented in our Economic Development Commission. This survey will provide us information on how well you enjoy doing business within our communities and the challenges you are experiencing. Information from this survey remains confidential and will give direction to programs and services offered by the Regional District Economic Development Commission.

We know that every business faces challenges. Some are unique and others are shared. That's why we want to hear from you. This survey is open from the 30th of June and will close on the 19th of August. Please fill out this survey and tell us, "How's business?"

To all the business owners in the Upper Skeena.

Whether you are a large business with many employees, or an owner/operator working from home, the RDKS values the many important contributions you make to the betterment of our region. You give us goods and services of all kinds, from art to appreciate, clothing to wear, food and crafts at farmer’s markets and things to see and do. We are conducting a Regional Business Survey and want to hear from you. We want to hear about your successes and your challenges and ultimately, learn how the RDKS can best support our local business economy. We want you to know you’re appreciated. Thank you for everything you do.

Area C of the Regional District is a large geographic area from Klemtu to Chimdemash and Kitimaat Village to Rosswood. It has a small and widely dispersed population and is comprised primarily of homes. Still, there are a small but growing number of businesses in Area C which create goods and services and employment opportunities and provide a valuable contribution to the local economy.

As a business in Area C, you are a big part of what makes our community a great place to call home. We understand that every business faces challenges and we want to learn yours. In order to do this, it would be very helpful if you could take this business survey. The information gathered will help us to find solutions and provide resources for our Area C businesses.

    - Bruce Bidgood, RDKS Area C Director

When I first became involved in the RDKS Economic Development Commission, tourism was the main driver for businesses within our area. Tourists have spin off benefits for businesses in the area they visit which our communities have enjoyed. Over the years, some major industries have closed or relocated decreasing the population of our area. Global events such as 9/11 and the COVID-19 pandemic have affected businesses within our area too.

There have been many businesses – Gift Shops, Restaurants, accommodations etc.- that have closed or operate reduced hours due to this. While we work to promote the area better, we want to hear what your unique challenges are to channel our efforts towards programs that are most valuable to you and will help you succeed as a business owner. Reach out to us – we are here to help address your business challenges and expand our area to what it used to be.

Thornhill's local businesses are a large part of why our community has been manageable and sustainable. The impacts of the pandemic and the social economic uncertainties that we all face, have taken its toll. As your local area representative, I encourage you to participate in the Regional Business Survey, so that the Regional District and myself, can fully understand and appreciate the difficulties that Thornhill businesses have faced. With a better understanding of these struggles, our programs and policies can be adapted to help address these issues. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Jeff Hammond, RDKS Area E Director
